The SENSISpec Lupin ELISA kit represents a highly sensitive detection system specifically designed for lupin allergen quantification in sausages, bakery products, potato-based products, ketchup, and aqueous matrices. With excellent cross-reactivity, the assay effectively detects all commercially relevant lupin species. Lupin, belonging to the legume family, contains protein fractions of 35-45% in seeds. Certain proteins within the alpha-, beta-, and gamma-conglutin fractions are known allergens exhibiting cross-reactivity with soy and peanut allergens. Due to increasing use of lupin flour as a food ingredient—particularly in specialty and dietary products for milk-allergic consumers, vegetarians, and celiac patients—reliable detection methods are essential. Three sweet lupin species (Lupinus albus, Lupinus angustifolius, Lupinus luteus) dominate food production applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

What food matrices are suitable for this assay?
The SENSISpec Lupin ELISA kit has been validated for sausages, bread and bakery products, potato-based products, ketchup, fruit juices, and aqueous samples. Other matrices may require preliminary validation.
Does the kit detect all lupin species?
Yes. The high cross-reactivity profile ensures detection of all three sweet lupin species (Lupinus albus, Lupinus angustifolius, Lupinus luteus) commonly used in food production.
What is the risk of cross-reactivity with other legumes?
Cross-reactivity is minimal with chickpea (0.0003%) and lentil (0.0004%). Soy flour shows higher reactivity depending on roasting status: unroasted 0.07%, roasted 0.0009%.
How long is the complete assay procedure?
Total incubation time is 60 minutes, consisting of three sequential 20-minute incubation periods, allowing same-day result reporting.
What is the detection limit for lupin in different foods?
LOD values vary by matrix: ketchup 0.1 ppm, sausage 0.2 ppm, croquette 0.2 ppm, bread 0.3 ppm, and orange juice 0.7 ppm.
