Its touchscreen interface and onboard software enable rapid endpoint assay programming and execution; the Gen5 software further supports advanced methodologies including kinetic measurements, spatial scanning, and absorbance spectral scanning.

The instrument employs a xenon flash light source, photodiode detector, and monochromator-based wavelength selection for absorbance mode, capable of measurements from 200-999 nm in 1 nm increments. The fluorescence mode features a halogen light source, PMT detector, and filter-based wavelength selection. It accommodates 6 to 384-well microplates (capacity varies by detection mode) and offers linear, orbital, and double-orbital shaking functions.

Using Take3 microvolume plates with onboard software, nucleic acid and protein quantitation can be performed on samples as low as 2 µL. The instrument is suitable for common endpoint applications including ELISA, BCA, Bradford, gene expression, and cell viability assays. Results can be exported via USB flash drive, printer, or directly to Gen5 software. Its modular design allows laboratories to add detection modules as needs evolve.
