Atago PAL-40S Sodium Hydroxide (Caustic Soda) Refractometer

The Atago PAL-40S is a digital refractometer specifically designed to measure the concentration of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) aqueous solutions. It delivers results in 3 seconds using only 2-3 drops of sample, making it ideal for caustic soda concentration control in chemical, pulp-and-paper, textile, metal surface treatment, and CIP (Clean-in-Place) processes.

The instrument offers a measurement range of 0.0-38.0% with 0.1% resolution and ±0.2% accuracy. Note that the device does not feature automatic temperature compensation; measurements must be performed at the specified reference temperature—a critical consideration for applications requiring precise process control. With IP65 protection rating, the robust metal housing provides excellent durability against the aggressive nature of alkaline media, extending instrument lifespan. Powered by 2 x AAA alkaline batteries, it is well-suited for field applications.

Since low NaOH concentrations result in insufficient cleaning/process efficiency and excessive concentrations lead to unnecessary chemical consumption, the rapid and repeatable measurements provided by PAL-40S directly impact process costs and quality control outcomes.
