The IUL Petri Labeler is an automated labeling unit that applies barcode labels to the sidewall of 90mm Petri dishes. It is used in microbiology and food laboratories where sample tracking is performed via barcode, reducing manual labeling errors and time loss associated with traditional labeling methods.

The operating principle is straightforward: Petri dishes are fed into the device, the start button is pressed, and labeled dishes are collected at the outlet. Because the label is applied to the dish sidewall, the plate's lid and interior contents remain visible; this allows labeled plates to be easily verified, read, and counted without obstruction.

Labels utilize Code 128 barcode symbology and feature white coating with calendar fields. The adhesive is a general-purpose permanent acrylic water-based formulation approved by ISEGA for direct contact with food materials—a critical requirement for food microbiology applications. Labels maintain a shelf life of 2 years under proper storage conditions (22ºC / 50% RH).

The device can be integrated into complete workflows that include sample preparation prior to colony counting and automated dilution processes. Barcoded plates facilitate tracking with automated colony counting instruments and laboratory information management systems.
