PEN-SW Baume Refractometer – Atago® Immersion Type Salinity Measurement Instrument

The PEN-SW Baume is a handheld refractometer manufactured by Atago®, operating on the dip-and-read principle. The Baume scale (°Bé) is widely used in the chemical industry for concentration tracking in applications such as acid-base production, electroplating processes, and salt electrolysis; this instrument reads directly on this scale.

The instrument body is constructed from SUS316 stainless steel, providing durability in continuous contact with saline and corrosive solutions. The measurement range is 0.0–25.7°Bé, covering the majority of industrial salt solutions. Accuracy is at the ±0.2°Bé level.

The device lacks IP65 ingress protection and automatic temperature compensation; therefore, measurements are recommended to be performed under controlled temperature conditions or with manual correction applied. Its simple prism and eyepiece design enables quick field results without sample preparation or electrical power requirements.

For operations conducting chemical manufacturing, metal surface treatment, and salt solution control, it serves as a practical, portable measurement tool.
