Counting colonies by naked eye is slow, tedious, and prone to observation errors. IUL's colony counter accelerates this process using LED illumination and a high-quality magnifying lens. Any microbiology laboratory engaged in colony counting will recognize this instrument as absolutely essential. Petri plates are properly placed within the colony counter. Operators can mark detected colonies using a specially designed marker, while a digital display increments the total count. Markers capable of direct contact with colonies are also available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is automated colony counting essential in microbiology labs?
Manual counting by naked eye is time-consuming, fatiguing, and subject to observation errors. Automated counting with magnification and optimized illumination ensures accuracy, consistency, and significantly faster throughput.
What are the marking options available?
Two marking modes are offered: a click-activated permanent marker for non-contact marking, or an optional stainless steel contact marker capable of direct colony contact.
Can the counter integrate with laboratory software?
Yes. The USB HID interface emulates a standard PC keyboard, enabling seamless integration with any keyboard-compatible laboratory information system (LIS) or specialized counting software on Windows platforms.
What is the counting capacity per plate?
The 4-digit LED display accommodates a maximum count of 9999 colonies per analysis cycle.
Are different models available for varying workspace requirements?
Yes, two configurations are available (Cat. No. 90008700 and 90008701) with different height dimensions and weights to accommodate diverse laboratory spatial constraints.
