The Atago 2973 Master-53PM is a lightweight, plastic-body handheld refractometer with a 0-53 Brix measurement range. Using only 2-3 drops of sample, it delivers fast Brix readings—making it a practical field and in-line quality control solution for jams, marmalades, honey, syrups, and other high-sugar-content food products.

Compared to other Master-53 series models in the same measurement range, this is the most economical option; however, it does not include automatic temperature compensation or IP65 protection. Therefore, measurements should be taken between 10-30°C ambient temperature, and the device should be protected from dust and water splash. For applications requiring automatic temperature compensation or IP65 protection, consider the MASTER-53α or MASTER-53T models in the same product line.

With ±0.5% accuracy and 0.5% resolution, it provides sufficient precision for basic quality control requirements. Its 130 gram weight and compact dimensions (3.2 × 3.4 × 16.8 cm) make it suitable for field use and single-handed operation.
