The VWN1/ATC, VWN2/ATC, and VWN3/ATC series handheld refractometers are designed for rapid and accurate measurement of fruit juice indices. These optical instruments measure refractive index values expressed in °Oe (Oechsle degree), Brix percentage, KMV Babo scale, and mash sugar content depending on model selection. Each model features optical glass prisms with integrated ATC function for temperature-compensated readings across the 0-140 °Oe measurement range.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between VWN1, VWN2, and VWN3 models?
VWN1 measures °Oe, KMV Babo, and mash sugar (0.5% Brix minimum division); VWN2 measures °Oe only (0.1 °Oe precision); VWN3 measures °Oe and Brix percentage (1% Brix minimum division).
How do I calibrate the refractometer?
Apply 1-2 drops of distilled water to the prism, close the cover, and observe the boundary line between light and dark areas. Adjust the calibration screw until the boundary aligns exactly with the zero mark. Allow calibration liquid and measurement sample to reach thermal equilibrium before use.
Why must calibration and measurement liquids have the same temperature?
Temperature differences affect refractive index readings. If a large temperature differential exists, allow 30 minutes for thermal equilibration before zero adjustment. The ATC function compensates for readings between 0-30°C during measurement.
How should I clean the refractometer?
After each measurement, wipe the prism and cover surfaces immediately. Never rinse with water—clean only with the supplied cloth using pure water. Do not use harsh solvents or contact optical components with hard objects.
What invalidates the manufacturer's warranty?
Use contrary to instructions voids warranty. This includes water rinsing, mechanical shock, corrosive environment exposure, and improper optical component handling.
